1099-G form

I have received my 1099-G form from unemployment through my employer for the year 2025. And it keeps saying I can only enter the year 2024. How do I go about adding it to my taxes? Am I not supposed to this year and do it next year? Help please

1099-G form

If you received taxable unemployment benefits, then your state and/or employer may issue you a 1099-G. TurboTax, both Online and Desktop editions, are accepting entries for the 1099-G for 2025.

In TurboTax Online:

  1. Go to Wages & Income in the Federal section
  2. Below the options in larger print, click the drop down arrow next to Unemployment
  3. Click the Start button that appears next to "Unemployment and paid family leave"

Another page will appear with fields to fill in for Unemployment.

Please see this help article and this tax tips article for more information.

The Form 1099G tax document reports the total taxable income issued to you in a calendar year. The payments are reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and must be included on your federal tax return.

Total taxable unemployment compensation includes:

  • Unemployment benefits, including:
    • Federal Extensions (FED-ED)
    • Pandemic Additional Compensation (PAC), also known as Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)
    • Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)
    • Lost Wages Assistance (LWA)
    • Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC)
  • Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits
  • Disability Insurance (DI) benefits received as a substitute for unemployment benefits
  • Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) benefits
  • Paid Family Leave (PFL) benefits

1099-G form

@user17699063837

You are entering the 1099-G in the wrong place. You entered it as a state income tax refund instead of as unemployment benefits. Delete the 1099-G that you entered. Under Wages & Income there is a separate topic for Unemployment. Follow the instructions in the help article that MonikaK1 referred to. The amount of unemployment benefits that you received should be in box 1 of the 1099-G.

What box is the amount in?   It may be for something else like a state refund you got.  Or you may be entering the Unemployment in the wrong spot.

Enter a 1099G for unemployment under
