1095-A

Hi,

I am using Turbo Tax for my 2024 Taxes. I am attempting to fill in columns B and C. These two columns are filled with zeros on our tax forms. This makes sense,  because we didn't get any help paying our monthly premiums for the 2024 tax year. When we applied to the market place at the very end of 2023, we were told we didn't qualify for assistance with our monthly premiums. (My husband is on a different market place health insurance plan.) The software will not let me put zeros in these columns. I tried just leaving columns B and C blank as well. It will not allow that either. If I follow the instructions to the Healthcare.gov "tool" for finding the 2nd lowest silver plan cost,  we end up with a sizable refund. It doesn't seem like this could be accurate... Is Turbo Tax malfunctioning? Do I not fill out these forms at all, even though our 1095-A forms say we have to?

Yes, you still should enter the second lowest silver plan cost in Column B.  This is to verify that either you still do not qualify for any credit, or to calculate the credit due if circumstances have changed.

Is there anyone who can help with this question? I am waiting on the answer to finish our taxes. Surely there is a tax expert or IT person who knows what to do?

Yes, you must complete this section if you do have 1095-A forms. Since you started entering zeros you should delete the form and start over. Make no entry where there should be zeros.

Follow the steps in the link below to enter your Form(s) 1095-A.  If you each have one you can complete two separate forms.

You'll need to delete your Form 1095-A first --------------------.

  • If you're using TurboTax Online software and need to delete a form, click here.
  • If you're using TurboTax Desktop software and need to delete a form, click here.

Please update here if you need additional information and we will help.

I deleted my two 1095-A entries completely, Including the online forms. I then started a brand new form. I filled in Column A. I didn't touch Columns B or C. I entered Nothing in either of these, Not even zeros. I clicked continue.  It brought me right back to the form and is insisting Column B "Must be greater than $0" and Column C "Please enter an amount". Next, I will try entering zeros in Column C and push continue. Tried that. It is still saying Column B cannot be "zero". Help appreciated!

You can always leave column C blank, but if you have an amount in column A, you need an entry in column B.    Don't enter zeros as it will cause an error.   Here is a link for the Healthcare.gov tool for finding your correct column B amounts.

Hi Dawn,

What if you didn't qualify for any credits? Would you still use this tool? The reason my column B on my 1095-A  has all zeros in it is because we were told our income was too high for a family of three for 2024. Do I still put the 2nd lowest silver plan cost in Column B?

Yes, you still should enter the second lowest silver plan cost in Column B.  This is to verify that either you still do not qualify for any credit, or to calculate the credit due if circumstances have changed.

Same issue as others are reporting for 1095-A.  I filled out Turbotax form just as it looked on my two (2) 1095-A's, which included multiple fields with 0.00.  I had to delete those 0.00's and leave the field blank in order to submit my return.  I also had two fields on my 1095-A that had 0.00 in column B, second lowest cost silver plan.  Turbotax insisted those fields couldn't be 0.00 so in order to push it through, I added 0.01.  NOT USER FRIENDLY.

You can not enter 0 in Column B, even if you did not have coverage for that period. If you did not have coverage for the month, you will still enter the second lowest cost silver plan in Column B. If your 1095-A does not have the amount listed, you will need to contact the Marketplace to determine the second lowest cost silver plan.
