Questions re. Extension

I filed for and received an extension for my taxes. Do I have to pay taxes if I didn't meet the minimum income requirements to file?

I can't find my Social Security statement re. payouts for 2022.  How can I get this information?

Do I have to file if I did not meet the minimum income threshold for having to pay taxes?

If I have an extension how do I handle this if I don't have to file?

What income level is required to have to file a tax return.  will I be expected to submit something if filed for and received an extension.  Please let me know.  Thank you.

Questions re. Extension

@DSI thank you for your question.  I think we should start at the end first.  Just because you filed an extension does not mean you have to file a tax return if your taxable income is below the income threshold to do so.  Furthermore, if you are below the income thresholds then you do not need to file a tax return.

See this to see if you are above the income thresholds by filing status:

Tax Year 2022 Filing Thresholds by Filing Status

Filing Status Taxpayer age at the end of 2022 A taxpayer must file a return if their gross income was at least:
single under 65 $12,950
single 65 or older $14,700
head of household under 65 $19,400
head of household 65 or older $21,150
married filing jointly under 65 (both spouses) $25,900
married filing jointly 65 or older (one spouse) $27,300
married filing jointly 65 or older (both spouses) $28,700
married filing separately any age $5
qualifying surviving spouse under 65 $25,900
qualifying surviving spouse 65 or older $27,300

Questions re. Extension

Forget about the extension, it's not important now.  What other income do you have besides Social Security?    Here a few links
