Question answered , thx

Without having the ability to look at his return, I can take a guess at the issue on his return.

If the father is indicating that your son lived with his for 6 months or more, the IRS will reject his return because you have already claimed the child related tax benefits that belong to the custodial parent. If this is the case, he will need to change the residency period to be 5 months or less.

Macuser's question is very important. If you live together, only one of you can claim all of the child tax benefits.

I did not claim my son i put on there he could be claimed by his father so Ayden did not qualify for earned income credit for me

Question answered , thx

Again - do both parents live with the child or are you divorced or separated parents that lived apart at all times during the last 6 months of 2016?

The answer to your question depends on the answer to that question.
