Problems downloading 1099-INTs

When I download my Fidelity 1099-INT, it shows in the program but the interest income does not appear in my return. When I called support, they recommended I do a manual fix, but this seemed like a feeble solution. Anyone having the same problem?

You could try previewing your tax return (Form 1040) to make sure the interest income is not being included. ‌It would be  included on your Form 1040, line 2.

You can get to your tax return in TurboTax desktop to preview it, as follows:

  1. Switch to Forms Mode, and then  (see screenshots below for additional guidance)
  2. Scroll through your forms in the left panel and
  3. Click on the form you want to preview (Example Form 1040)

You can get to your Tax Return in TurboTax Online to preview it, as follows:

  1. Go to "Tax Tools" in your left panel,
  2. Select "Tools" and then
  3. Select "View Tax Summary" and
  4. Select "Preview Form 1040"

If your interest income from Fidelity is not showing, you should delete that form 1099-INT and re-enter it. You can reenter it manually to make sure it gets entered correctly or you can try importing it again.

To delete your Form 1099-INT you can do the following:

For TurboTax Desktop:

  1. Open/continue your return
  2. Click on "Search
  3. And in the search bar type"1099-INT"
  4. Select "Jump to 1099-INT"
  5. It'll take you to a screen that shows your Form(s) 1099-INT that you have entered.
  6. Next to the Form 1099-INT you want to delete, click on the (down-Facing) caret
  7. Click on the "garbage can" to delete this form

For TurboTax Online:

  1. Open/continue your return
  2. Click on magnifying glass for Search in the top right of your screen
  3. And in the search bar type"1099-INT"
  4. Select "Jump to 1099-INT"
  5. It will take you to a screen that shows your Form(s) 1099-INT that you have entered.
  6. Next to the Form 1099-INT you want to delete, click on the (down-Facing) caret
  7. Click on the "garbage can" icon to delete this form

You can enter your Form 1099-INT information manually using the steps below:

  1. Open your return
  2. In the search Bar enter Form 1099-INT
  3. Select "Jump to 1099-INT"
  4. It will ask, "Did you have investment income in 2024?" Select "Yes"
  5. Select "Continue"
  6. Select "Skip Import"
  7. You will Select your investment type which is "Interest"
  8. You will "Continue"
  9. Then you will see the screen "Let's get the info from your 1099-INT"
  10. You will type in the information from your Form 1099-INT on that page.

As suggested, I deleted all the downloaded forms and re-downloaded. Yet again, the 1099-INT shows as having been downloaded and integrated in my return, but it doesn't show on the return itself. To be clear, the worksheet shows the interest income, but the return does not. This means that some thousands of interest income are going unreported -- which I assume is an enormous liability for Turbotax, which guarantees that its calculations are correct.

I'd welcome suggestion for how to address this issue, since the worksheets show the interest and it's the return that doesn't. (By the way, I'd started this return before the most recent update, and it was fine -- it appears that the update caused a new bug).

These are the steps that I followed to download interest income from a bank or financial institution.

In TurboTax Online Premium, after downloading from a bank or financial institution, I see this screen.

At this point, the income is not yet reported on the income tax return.  Click Continue.

At the screen Importing from more financial institutions?, select No.  Click Continue.

At the screen Awesome, you've got a great head start!, select Continue.

At the screen Let's finish pulling in your investment income, select Review to view the transactions.

At the screen Now, let's review your 1099-INT, see if there are entries missing or that need to be corrected.  Click Continue.

At the screen Do any of these uncommon situations apply?, I selected None of these apply.  Click Continue.

Needs review tag has been removed.

Interest is reported on line 2b of the Federal 1040 income tax return.

My 1099 INT is missing, so the interest is also missing.

If you have received an IRS form 1099-INT from your bank, information from the form may be entered by hand.

In TurboTax Online, follow these steps to enter the income:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Click the down arrow to the right of Investments and Savings.
  • Click to the right of Interest on 1099-INT.
  • At the screen Let's finish pulling in your investment income, Click Add investments.
  • At the screen Let's import your tax info, select Enter a different way.
  • At the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, select Interest.

If you have fairly simple Forms 1099-INT, you may wish to enter them directly rather than importing.

If you imported a tax statement, such as Form 1099-INT, and received a "Success" message, but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it may be due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.

To fix this you can allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:

  1. Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.
  2. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.
  3. Toggle the switch to ON.
  4. Refresh the page and attempt your import again.

If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:

  • Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February or later due to complex reporting requirements.
  • Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.
  • Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

None of the solutions posted address the original problem. I am also unable to view imported 1099 forms in my return after downloading them multiple times. Entering the information manually is one option but one of the 1099s is 32 pages long. I'm sure the relevant information is in only a few of those forms and I can figure out what information to enter, but that really defeats the purpose of buying TurboTax in the first place. I might as well save the money I spent on the TurboTax software, download the needed forms from the IRS, enter my information and file my taxes at no cost.

Intuit, please address this bug in a software update.

I ended up entering mine by hand, but as you say, that defeats the purpose of the program. I think I'll try someone else next year.

I am definitely having a problem with 1099-INT forms. I am uploading them from my laptop and going through all the steps for each one, but in the end, TurboTax just shows the income from one. Very frustrating!

Are all of the 1099-INTs from the same bank? If so, enter the total amount of the 1099-INTs into a single field.

No, they're not all from the same bank. I ended up entering by hand, and that worked. But frustrated with TurboTax, and probably won't use again.
