First off, thank you (again) so much for your help on this issue.  Seriously, I greatly appreciate this.

Yes, that is correct - lines 8a, 8b and 8c on the IT-540 are just blank.  It reads as if I didn't itemize on the federal return at all.

As for Line 12b on the 1040, that amount is also blank (as we had no evidence of any charitable contributions to write-off for the 2021 tax year).  

I kept wondering if I clicked a button somewhere in the worksheets that is preventing the itemized deductions from flowing from the federal return to the State of LA. return.  I've looked EVERYWHERE.  I just don't see what the determining factor is.  And as I stated earlier, I did a similar thing by going into the 2020 software and trying something similar; sure enough, on that test example, the itemized deductions flow through to the state return, but it will not flow through on the 2021 return.
