I made a payment in 2024 for state taxes due from my 2023 return. In the "step-by-step" process, I entered this as a payment of state tax in 2024 for a 2023 return. In trying to reconcile the amounts reflected on my federal and state return for tax payments, it appeared that the amount was duplicated. Specifically on line 23 of the tax payments worksheet it correctly recorded the payment made. However, it duplicated it on line 24. Looking at the help for these fields, line 24 is specifically for any other payments not already recorded in previous lines. I noticed that line 23 was shown in normal, black font. However, the entry on line 24 was in green font, with a plus icon next to it. I clicked on the plus icon and a window popped up to allow me to enter details - but there were was no text or amount listed. I temporarily tried entering a negative amount, at which point it logically offset the correct entry. When I then blanked it out, it removed the duplicate entry. I went back to the step-by-step screen and rechecked what I had entered, and it was only shown once - I did not make a mistake and enter it twice. I have been on hold for close to an hour trying to report this. If you have a similar situation, I recommend going into the tax payments worksheet to verify it did not duplicate your entry.

The green color means it was imported. See this chart for colors. Great job catching it!

Thank you. I checked the .qfx file used to import into TurboTax, and it was included. It appears it mapped to the wrong line, so it ended up duplicating the entry.
