Payment arrangement question- I was issued vouchers, but now I can pay in full. Can I go onto IRS.gov, pay my taxes and not mail anything in? Will this confuse the IRS?

I originally wanted to do a payment arrangement, but later changed my mind and decided to pay by credit card. I changed my information, and logged out. Today I was all ready to file and submitted my returns, only to find out that my payment method change was not saved and Turbotax filed my payment arrangement request anyway. I was also given instructions to print and mail in my return.

I intend to log into the IRS and pay in full tomorrow. If I do this, do I still have to print my return and mail it in? Will the IRS still think I owe them money? I have never had to pay any taxes before, so I am a little confused.

Any help would be much appreciated.

No, not if your return has already been efiled and accepted. Once it is accepted the IRS has you return and has started processing. If you sent an installment agreement, they have that too, however if you decide to make the payment in full it will most likely be disregarded because you will not have a balance due. To confirm, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. You can also make your payment on the IRS website www.irs.gov/payments.
