When I do our 2023 taxes, how/where do I request to use the "Part-time resident" form for NY State taxes? Will the taxes then be prorated as in 5 months / 12 months times what we'd owe for full year?
2nd ?: We bought an electric car in January, where will we be able to fill in info as we'll qualify for some if not all federal "rebate"?
3rd ?: if we buy an electric car in NY in 2024, would we be eligible for another federal "rebate"?

Good Day Dabug-Taxes,
You certainly had a busy year! A move and a new car! I hope you are enjoying both.
1. If you moved into or out of New York during 2023; you would need to fill out Form IT-203 to report your income for your period of residence as well as any income earned from NY sources after your move.
How to report part year New York in Turbo Tax If the other state you lived in during 2023 has a personal income tax, you will have to file a part year return for that state also.
2. There are federal tax credits available for the purchase of Electric Vehicles. In 2023, there could be a credit available for used as well as new vehicles. The availability of the credit depends on the model of the car, how many the manufacturer has sold, and where final assembly occurred. Here is all the information you need about the credit and how to look up if your vehicle qualifies.

We have been snow-birding for years so could/should have used Part-time resident status earlier. In winter we are in Florida, a state without income taxes, but our "income" is made up of retirement pensions (mine from NYS Retirement System & my wife's from NYS Teacher's Retirement System), plus RMDs & Social Security. Our pensions are not taxed in NY, but our interest, dividends, RMDs, etc. resulted in some NYS taxes. Since all income is from our pensions or investments what is considered "New York sources"? How & where report it on Turbo Tax.
For the electric car, if we buy another electric car in NYS in 2024, are we eligible for another federal tax credit? I "assume" that our electric tax credit for 2023 (& maybe 2024) will be used to reduce our taxes due AND if we've already overpaid (have) that it will result in being added to our refund. Is this correct?
