Turbo Tax has an error. When a US citizen with a Non Resident Alien (NRA) spouse selects Married Filing Separately, Turbo Tax requests a SSN for the NRA spouse. Without it, Turbo Tax will not let you file electronically. This is different from the IRS instructions, which state:
"For electronic filing, enter the spouse's name or “NRA” if the spouse
doesn’t have an SSN or ITIN in the entry space below the filing status checkboxes."
Turbo Tax should allow a return to be filed electronically if the NRA spouse does not have an SSN. When will Turbo Tax fix this?

It's not a Turbo Tax requirement but an IRS one. In this case, you will need to write NRA in the social security field and print and mail the return.
Can I request that the Turbo Tax software is changed to allow the input of "NRA" in the field where the social security number is. As some of us have NRA spouses without a SSN. When I try to file electronically the software will not permit it without a SSN input. If I input a fictious SSN to get the software to allow me to electronically file then it gets rejected by the IRS due to the incorrect SSN. Thus, my only solution is to print a hard copy of my return and write in "NRA" in the SSN field and mail it. This is inconvenient and reduces the value of my purchase of TurboTax. I also think this software change would be rather simple to implement.
