I tried to e-file my taxes and my federal return was accepted and state was rejected. So I went through the process of trying to fix my state, but when I got to filing it acted like it wanted to re-file both returns. I read to select "file by mail" for federal because you can't e-file your federal returns twice and then e-file your state taxes. Filing state went through and is pending but now the status under Federal has changed to "Printed" instead of "accepted." Does this mean that the IRS will now be expecting my return by mail and won't continue to process my return from the original e-file?

No, only re-file what was rejected. If you already received accepted on your federal taxes, don't worry about it. If you haven't you may want to make sure you did e-file them. Check link out below:
