Can your deduct money given to a fund to aid someone with burial costs? Also, can you deduct items given for a funds auction to help aid someone with burial costs?

This was done because the husband who lost his wife did not have money enough for funeral and burial costs; e.g., casket, funeral home costs, grave site, etc. so a sister-in-law put an auction and donation fund together to help him afford the costs. We donated lots of items for the auction and $10,00.00.

No, in order to take this as a deduction, it would have had to be given to a qualified nonprofit organization.  Since it was given to an individual it is considered a gift and is not tax deductible.
