I received under $10,000 in unemployment from New Jersey but did not live in New Jersey while receiving this unemployment. How do I file this for my 2021 Taxes?

New Jersey does not tax unemployment insurance payments, but they are subject to federal income tax. Unemployment may be taxable in the state where you were a resident.

In what state were you a resident?

@PattiF

Thank you. I received the NJ unemployment while traveling (No Residence) and as a resident of South Carolina. I moved to South Carolina on 08/01/21 and stopped receiving unemployment on 09/08/21. Does this effect how I would submit my taxes for 1099-G on my federal Tax Return? Since I lived in South Carolina for a short time while having unemployment.

This will not have any effect on how you will report unemployment on your federal return. It will be taxable income on the federal level.

South Carolina does tax unemployment if it was paid by South Carolina or received while a resident of South Carolina. You will file as a part-year resident for South Carolina and prorate the amount of unemployment that you received while living there.
