Need help with this question... Did you receive any distributions from a retirement plan after 2016? Only distributions that occurred before the due date of your 2019 return?

I took a distribution from my 401k in January of 2020 after being terminated from my job and I don't know if I should answer yes or no to this question and would I put the amount before they took out taxes or after?

If the withdrawal in January 2020 was your first withdrawal, you should answer No in your 2019 tax return, otherwise answer Yes to this question and give the gross distribution amount.
