Will the business income be reported within the form 1040 on Schedule C Profit or Loss From Business?

Or will the business income be reported on it's own tax return, such as a C corp, an LLC or an S corp?

Business income or loss reported on those forms must be prepared first because the income or loss flows to the personal form 1040 income tax return.

If you are married and living together neither one if you is "head of household."  Your filing choices are to file married filing jointly or married filing separately.   If your business was a sole proprietorship, it is a disregarded entity and you enter all of the information on your joint return and prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses, and your spouse's W-2 goes on the same return.

If you have a S-corp, C-corps or multi-member partnership---that business return has to prepared separately from your personal tax return, using TurboTax Business software.

If you have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare,  you will need to use online Premium software or any version of the desktop software download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.

If you live in a state with a state income tax, you might need to make estimated payments to your state.
