ONLY dependents UNDER the age of 17 are eligible for the Child Tax Credit & the stimulus ... see the form 1040 column 4 ....
I was not given the right amount the stimulus check did not include my dependent
What happens when you're stimulus check is incorrect. I received $1,200 when I should have received $1700 because I have a dependent.
@CharlesShep2020 - there are press reports that there are glitches. Sit tight. Absolute worst case is you will be reconciling that on your 2020 tax return next year and get the extra $500.
@mikemelaniehall - absolute worst case is that you'll have the opportunity to correct it on your 2020 tax return next year. the IRS used the 2018/ 2019 income and dependents to create an ESTIMATE of how much stimulus you are due, The 2020 tax return will be used to calculate what you are ACTUALLY due. it'll work out.
certainly if your 2019 tax return is incorrect because you didn't get the correct tax credit for the child, amend!!! the stimulus money will eventually follow
We are also a married couple with a 1 year old dependent and only received 2400. We also already filed our 2019 tax returns and fall well under the irs guidelines on taxable income limits. Not sure why we didn’t get the full amount. Anyone else with this issue?
@dwarren - there are articles in the press that dependents were missed. Worst case: you'll get the extra $500 on you 2020 tax return next year. suggest just sitting tight,.
Same here. Our son was 16 last year and our other was 5. We didnt anything for either of them!
That portal doesnt help if the amount is wrong though!
Me and my husband filed our taxes we did get our married couple payment into his account but I did get our income tax amended because I messed up do you think that would be the reason why we did not get that $500 per kid and do you think they will send that part in a check since when I got my stuff amended I got the other half of our income tax by check or how does this work because I did not get that $500 per child and We have three kids we only got the married couple payment
We got 2400 on the 15th but did not get the $500 per child and we have three children
I agree there’s no email or phone number to get a hold of the IRS we got 2400 for married couples but we have three children and yet to receive that $500 per child we should’ve got 3900 I wish there was a way that we can get a hold of the IRS to let them know how many kids we have because we did not receive it what if you got your stuff amended could that slow down the process of that $500 per child
@NCperson thanks for your reply. I did go back the last 4 years of my tax returns & on the box where it says child credit only 1 of my 2 children had a check mark. So I am going to amend. Sort of relieved that this happened as I may have been doing my taxes wrong this whole time .
