Hello, so I received 1400 from the stimulus while my wife received nothing at all. On my IRS account it says I received 2100? I'm confused and not sure how to go about this, I tried calling the IRS but they ended transferring me to a machine that ending hanging up on me.
I don't wanna put 1400 on my recovery rebate credit without figuring out what to do.
We have no kids, and thoroughly searched with help of our bank for all IRS deposits and only found the 1400 one, nothing additional, no extra 700.
How do I proceed?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Enter what you actually received, which is $1,400, and claim $1,400 for your wife.
Should I not try to contact the IRS first? (tho its almost impossible to do so during tax season sigh)
No. If you call the IRS. All they will tell you is what is on their records which is that they paid you $2,100.
Where did you get your info? The IRS recommends you check Your Online Account, which they say continues the most up-to-date and accurate information.
I checked on my IRS online account. I'm at a total lost on how to handle this.
For married individuals filing a joint return, each spouse will receive their own IRS Letter 6475 reporting the third stimulus payment.
The IRS online account will also report the amount of a payment issued. Have you checked the online account for both yourself and your spouse?
If no other payments are discovered, report what was deposited in your checking accounts at the screen Let's double-check the amount you received.
However, entering an amount that the IRS disagrees with could delay your refund while the IRS manually processes it.
@serados Was there 3 people listed on your 2020 tax return ? You , your spouse and a dependent ? If so you should have gotten 4200 (1400 x 3) so 2100 is your half of the total. So are you sure you did not get the full 4200 advance stimulus? Just because your wife didn't get the 6475 letter doesn't mean you don't need to enter in the total amount you got between you both. Did you check the IRS online system for both of you yet ?
Enter what you want but if the IRS doesn't agree with what you said then they will make the correction on the return automatically however this can delay your refund for some time.
If the IRS said they sent the advance and you did not get it then you have to put a trace on the missing payment. https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/third-economic-impact-payment
never got the letters, but yeah we checked our online account and it said 2100 on mine, 0 on hers.
im completely sure of the amount we recieved, we only got 1400, not the additional 700 that comes up on my irs account.t
no, only me and my wife. we have no dependents no kids nothing nada zip. we got no letters. we checked our irs online accounts, she shows 0, i show 2100. i never got the additional 700 only 1400.
there is no way to trace that payment anymore, only to check online for the amount received.
Ok .. then just put the correct amount you got in the program and let the IRS figure it out ... they are not always correct.
