We are married filing jointly in California. Part of our earnings comes from his 1099's, and part from my 1099's. How do we declare our earnings? Do we add up all our 1099's and equally split the amount between us two? And do we also split all our expenses and create our own Schedule C's? I am concerned that we might get flagged because our earnings won't match our individual 1099's because we have combined everything as a married couple operating a business (private contractor) in California?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You should file a joint return to include two separate Schedule C's.
In addition, you should file your own 1099-MISC's on you own returns, add then divide the expenses in the most reasonable manner possible.
Doing the above will match your earnings with your 1099-MISC tax forms and will allow you the proper credit with your Social Security earnings records.
However, assuming you are not set up as corporations or have a formal partnership. you should be using TurboTax Self Employed online (or TurboTax Home and Business, cd download), not TurboTax Business
