My mom had to move in with me this year as she can no longer drive. Might there be any deductions I can take for moving her here? She was 4 hours away.

Also, I am her sole caretaker.

There is no tax deduction for moving your mom in with you. You may be able to claim her as your dependent if certain requirements are met.  In order to claim a parent as a dependent, certain tests must be met.

These requirements are as follows:

  1. She must be your parent.
  2. She must have lived with you more than half of the year (these exceptions apply).
  3. You must have provided more than half of her support
  4. She must not file a joint return with anyone else (unless to claim a refund of taxes paid or withheld).
  5. She must be a US citizen.
  6. She must not be claimed on anyone else's tax return.
  7. She must have made less than $5,050 in 2024. (This generally does not include Social Security Benefits).
