To enter a 1099-MISC in TurboTax:
This will be considered self-employment income.
GiseleD,
I have the same question. I am having to fill out a schedule C and am trying to put in my 1099-MISC information but the boxes and info for the boxes are completely different than what is on Turbo tax. I got this form in May of 2020 as this business was going out of business.
I am wanting to enter my Non-employee compensation but not sure where to enter this money number as it doesn't seem to have an area for this on the turbo tax area. It was box 7 and now you cannot even enter any info in Box 7. Please advise, Thanks!
Take a closer look at your form and the information you are trying to enter as part of your Schedule C. There was a change in forms used to report non-employee compensation for 2020. You should have a Form 1099-NEC instead of Form 1099-MISC. The box numbers are different on those two forms.
If the numbers still do not match up, you can always just enter the amount of income reported on the form you have in hand as 'cash' income received for your Schedule C business. That way, the income is being reported on your return and that is what is most important.

If your payer did use the wrong form, you should enter a 1099-MISC with non-employee compensation as if you had received a 1099-NEC with non-employee compensation in box 1.
