I just got an update on my federal return. I filed February 2nd, it was accepted on the 12th, and yesterday they gave me an actual date. I also had a baby in July 2020. My federal return on TT said 4379 and they gave me a reference code 9021. My refined went from 4379 to 2029. I’m suppose to get a letter Wednesday, same date I’m receiving the funds. Even if numbers were computed incorrectly, they corrected it wrong. I may have messed up with the amount for the new baby but they would’ve corrected it to the correct amount instead of not recognizing her birth and give the 1100 instead of what I may have put in. They still shorted me 1250. I hope I don’t have to amend because I’m waiting on my amended return from 2019 still. I’m not able to speak to anyone on the phone at 7:15 am this morning because of high call volume. The
Hi I was supposed to get back $4483 but instead got back $3383 because IRS check line 30 on my tax return which was supposed to be left $0 amount if you received your all of your 1st and 2nd stimulas checks I got both of those full amount but TT put $1,100 on line 30 which is RECOVERY rebate creditIRS double checked and seen I was actually owed nothing from recovery rebate credit and adjusted my taxes. So please check line 30 see if you have a $$$ on it. Oh and I called TT they were NO HELP in this matter. SO next year I'm filing with a preparer.
@jmrduenaz When you entered the full amounts you got for each round did you include the amounts you got for a child? And enter the right amount in each box? If you entered an amount in the wrong box it would think you didn't get the other round.
Or did you add a new dependent and the IRS took them off your return?
9021– Reference Code for all math error conditions. Note that a "math error" can occur if you make a data entry mistake, or forget to claim some income; and thus the refund amount is incorrectly calculated. The IRS does not notify TT. Also see this:
I just checked my tax form and on line 30 TT entered 4000.00 I know I did not put in that number. Before the rebate recovery, my returne would’ve been 2000 and something but I don’t know why they didn’t input 1100, but instead 4000. This is the second time TT has said they looked over my return by expert but I’m always having issues. I’ll be going to an actual in person tax prepare next year. Oh yes, I did have a new dependent, I had my baby in July 2020.

$4,000 - 1100 = 2900. Which sounds like the first stimulus for married 2400+500 for 1 dependent. Did you get 2,900 for the first check? Maybe you entered the 2900 in the wrong box?
Yes I only have 1 dependant and it's hubby and myself.I don't know why Turbo tax put $1,100 on RECOVERY rebate line because I was owed $0!.. so IRS seen that I said I was owed $1,100 because I didn't receive my full stimulas,which in reality I did.TURBO TAX could if got me in big trouble putting that $1,100.I got my tax refund really late and my 3rd stimulas just received.U called TT multiple times and no help about this matter😡
Please go to this link. Line 30 on your return should only be filled out with something if you never received your stimulus payment. https://www.thetaxadviser.com/issues/2021/jan/claiming-recovery-rebate-credit-2020-individual-return....
@jmrduenaz When you entered the Stimulus payments you already got did you include the 500 & 600 you got for your dependent? In the right boxes? So you entered 2900 in the first box and 1800 in the second box?
I checked my mail tonight and the IRS sent the rest of my stimulus. 2100.00. I didn’t expect that. I’m thankful I didn’t have to amend but I still stand by not filing through TT anymore. I hope you receive the remainder of your funds.
@xmasbaby0
So what if refund was more than expected but not by much and I also received the 9021 code? Yes had a baby in 2020. No did not get any of the 3 stimulus’ for her. Did not fill in line 30 but it did say $300 on there. I got the $300 added to my refund although I did not enter it I simply pressed yes received all stimulus because I was confused. My ddd is for 4/13. So haven’t received refund yet but it is accepted under wmr tool. Just a little confused on what to do!
So was your refund $800 more? You should have had 1100 on line 30 for the new baby. Or maybe more if you qualified for more of the first 2 rounds. Did you have a lower income in 2020?
Hello, thanks for this info...I have been driving myself crazy ever since I received an update from the IRS stating my refund amount changed. I filed on 2/12, return was accepted on 2/13- Delay for multiple weeks to then get an update that my refund amount was being reduced. Original amount was $2031.00 and now being reduced to $931.00 After researching my return it showed $1100.00 on Line 30 which is the exact amount the IRS is reducing. I did not include this when processing because I got both of my stimulus payments so there was no need for anything to be entered. Can you please advise what next steps you took to get this corrected? I will definitely be going with another tax preparer next year. This could have caused me to get in trouble for reporting incorrect info. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated
@sonya6128 Did you already get the $1,100 for a dependent? 500+600 You don't enter the 1100 on line 30. You were suppose to enter the total you already received including the 1100 you already got. The IRS knows they sent it to you. But it showed up on your return to claim it again. There is nothing to correct. Your refund was wrong and too high.
From my understanding it was a glitch in all tax ware not just turbo tax. Everything def was figured out with sending stimulus and refunds at the same time. I would call the IRS and let them know you did not fill in recovery rebate line 30 and they should fix amount. Now if you did not receive all of any of the stimulus or had a new baby or income changed this could be why it auto filled it. Def call if you received all stimulus and you didn’t have any offsets! Trust me I know it’s frustrating and times are hard right now sending good vibes your way!
