It depends. Were there any other changes in your family such as a child turning 17 or 13 and no longer able to claim the child and dependent care credit or child tax credit? Did your filing status change? Ex. go from Married filing jointly to Married Filing Separately?
Last year did you have another type of credit like the EV credit or Residential Energy Credit?
Did you have the same amount of taxes withheld last year versus this year?
The best way to figure out the difference is to go back through your tax return and double check your entries to be sure all questions are answered accurately and that there were no entry errors.
If everything is correct, then you can use your last years tax return to compare this years return line by line. This will tell you where the change happened. If you find that the change is due to the amount of taxes withheld, then you should look at your W-2's to be sure everything was entered correctly last year.

Thank you. I will compare the 2. The total of our "box 2" Federal deductions was $8,000. It's hard to imagine owing an additional $11,00 on top of that. A 20% income tax on 97 grand seems impossible??
Using the tool you suggested, my "tentative tax" is $7,000-ish. Then a lines says, "other taxes". What are "other taxes"? That line say >$11,000.
"total tax" $19,000.
That seems too much.
Can you clarify if you had business income (Schedule C)? @wondersofnature
