If your child earned no investment income in 2015 such as interest and dividends, you should not claim your child's income on your return even if you claim him as a dependent. He will claim his income on his own return but if he earned less than his Standard Deduction of $6,300 in W-2 wages (if he/she is single), the child is not required to file but may elect to do so if he desires a refund of his withholding

If you are eligible to claim your child as your dependent, and he files his own return, he should check the box Someone else can claim me o their tax return in the personal information section.

See Rules for Claiming a Dependent on Your Tax Return

Self-employment income (1099-MISC or cash) in excess of $400 must be reported in any case.
