If the 2018 federal tax return was filed and accepted by the IRS, then you will have to amend the tax return to make any changes to the filed return.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a 2018 tax return originally completed and filed using TurboTax - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/amending/help/how-do-i-amend-a-return-in-turbotax/01/27579
An amended tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed. The IRS will take up to 16 weeks or longer to process the amended tax return.
When you say you "filed" do you really just mean you used the Self-Employed version by mistake and filled in some information but did NOT e-file or mail it in? In your next sentence you say "not filed yet"--what do you mean?
And..if you had "no income" why are you preparing tax return? We need more information from you. What do you think you need to file ASAP? Did you have marketplace health insurance--did you get a 1095A?
If your federal return is incorrect, just amend your return by filing a 1040-X and any other forms for the return that you need to include or exclude based upon the change(s) you need to make. TurboTax 2018 will walk you through the steps to amend your return. You will need to send the amended return by regular mail. If you care about the date of mailing, send it certified.
@DavesNotHere User says he has "not filed yet." If he has not filed yet, then preparing an amended return would be a mistake that would compound his problems. We need to know if he has actually filed a return either by e-filing or mailing a return before suggesting a 1040X.
@xhalabi It sure would be helpful if you replied back. The way you worded your message is confusing. Either you filed or did not file. If you filed you have to amend. If you did not file then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. If you have no income of any kind, then you do not need to file a tax return unless you are receiving health care insurance through one of the state exchanges and received a Form 1095-A.
