Multiple states one as MFJ and one as MFS

Hi, I have looked through many answers here but none fit entirely to our situation.

We need to file MFJ for federal and one state (NY). Additionally I need to file for another state as MFS, just myself. My husband doesn't ned to file for the second state.

Am I able to do this using TurboTax and e-file for all of them?

Which version of TurboxTax should I use?

This link seems to say that if I use the online version, I can e-file for multiple states?

thanks!

You would be able to use TurboTax to efile the federal and New York Married Filing Jointly returns.  Unfortunately you may not be able to file the single state separate, because as the article references you create a Married Separate return to get the numbers for the state Married Separate return. If the efile requires the federal information, you would not be able to efile the "created as if" separate return so it wold have to be mailed.  Which state are you filing separate?

Hi. Thanks for the quick response.

I am filing as MFS for Maryland (for rental income only)

Maryland has several different filing status, but since you are both Maryland nonresidents,it would be easiest to file the Maryland Joint- only the rental income would be taxed. You can file with TurboTax online- for Maryland, you would not have to create the "as if separate" federal return referenced above because they have a different method for the separate state return which can still use the joint federal.   If you have questions while filing, we are here to help. @Anonymous
