Moving to another state

I just landed a new job in another state, I want to change my residency to that state as quickly as possible, what do I need to do? My current state has high taxes and the new state doesn't have state income tax. Could I get my first paycheck and sign-on bonus to be in the new state?

Moving to another state

It sounds like you have not moved yet.  So right now you are still subject to the state tax in the state you are living in.     You also have not said if you have actually begun the new job.

You will have to find out from the employer when they will pay the sign on bonus and first paycheck and how they will report it to the IRS and state.

You have not mentioned what states.   You will need to file at least a part-year return in the state you have been living in and working in.  If you move before 2022 ends then you will also file a part-year return for that new state, unless it is a state with no state income tax.

Moving to another state

I am in the process of moving now, but its going to take a couple months to fully move. I am leaving NY and going to TX. I do not want to use my NY address for the TX job that I start on December 5th. In order to use TX for my income do I only need to give my employer a TX address? Or do I need to do something else?
