Missing 2021 Form 1116

I am using TurboTax 2021 Home & Business Desktop version for Mac.

Last week when I tried to complete Foreign Tax Credit Form 1116 I received an error message that the IRS had not yet completed the form and I should check back later.

Today I updated to Formset 2021.11607. Using EasyStep it now allows me to enter preliminary Foreign Tax Credit information to the point of selecting between a credit or deduction. When I choose the deduction option the EasyStep process stops, it defaults to the credit option, and will not complete Form 1116. I do not get an error message, just the warning “Do Not File” on the blank Form 1116.

Is this a known bug with this update?

Is TurboTax still waiting for the IRS to make Form 1116 available?

Looking on the IRS website today (01/28/2022) I see the 2021 Form 1116 available now, why would it not also be available in TurboTax?

If the IRS has newly updated/released a form, it may take additional time for it toc be updated in the program.

The tentative date that Form 1116, Foreign Tax Credit for AMT will be available on TurboTax is 2/17/22.

Well its 2/18/22 and Turbotax still hasn't fixed this issue. Every day Intuit can't get it together costs me money as I owe a lot of tax due to capital gains, and the penalty goes up. Not happy, I regret using Turbotax.

Turbotax still says " ... the IRS is still working on finishing up Form 1116" to explain why this form is not available today (2/14) on Turbotax.

But that is not true, nor has it been true for the last 3 weeks - as detailed by previous posters here.

The problem lies with Turbotax.

Can not Turbotax devote sufficient resources to take care of this in a reasonable timeframe? I suspect it easily can, but is not willing to do so. $$$

Form 1116 has been delayed another week until February 24, 2022 from February 17, 2022. This is my last year using TurboTax because of this missing form business in the last several years. I find it interesting that TaxCut (H&R Block) had this form available in January 2022 shortly after it was released by the IRS. Anyone who has an international stock mutual fund will need this form so as to claim a foreign tax credit so they are not paying U.S. taxes on top of foreign taxes. Clearly, the folks at Intuit do not understand the importance of this form to many investors.

Using Premium edition. Have less than $600 Foreign Tax Withheld from stock dividends. Turbo Tax will not let me file as it insists I fill out Form 1116 which is not required. Should have not up dated TurboTax on 02/19/2021 when ready to E-file.............

And I don't even need to file a Form 1116, because my foreign tax credit is only $55. Intuit should be smart enough to put that into the program and let me waive it. Well, it 2/17 and tiday is the day they promised the update,

Feb 25 is the new date for form 1116 per the TurboTax web site. Will have to wait to see if that date is reliable

I was hoping that form 1116 capability would be available today, February 17, per the initial estimate. I see now that it got pushed back a week to the 24th. I've already waited two weeks to file my taxes because of this not being available. This is disappointing. I'm the type who likes to take care of responsibilities like this early. After using TurboTax for over 20 years, I tried H&R Block for the first time by the recommendation of some on this thread. I switched to them and filed my taxes through their software. I didn't find it as slick as Turbo Tax's software, but at least I was able to file.

TL;DR: If you're like me and like to get your taxes done early, I recommend with others on this thread to use H&R Block. They independently derived the exact same tax refund that Turbo Tax did. I plan to use them in the future.

We have a new update on date for our beloved Form 1116 being ready as the new date is now March 3rd!!! So much for that refund by e-filing with all but that form ready. Keep checking the link below on availability and hope Turbo Tax does not continue to push this back as the value of the product is diminishing. I agree it's disingenuous to pin this on the IRS. A team with Intuit needs to make this a priority to quickly develop the Turbo Tax user interface for their clients to finish the Federal, State returns. All is held up until this work is completed.

This is getting ridiculous. We know that the IRS has finalized this form weeks ago, and competitor supports it. As far as I can tell, Intuit has done nothing but give bad estimates about its availability.

I was able to get around this issue. If your foreign tax is <$300 ($600 for MFJ), then Form 1116 isn't required. Still don't get why TT doesn't take care of that automatically. I have a large refund coming and didn't want to wait until 3/3/2022 (latest update) for the form to be available. So I started working through the 1116 worksheet manually. You can work directly on forms and worksheets -- it's under the View menu item. It was a bit daunting, so I gave up and deleted the worksheet (not the form), Then I thought what the heck...and tried to submit anyway. It worked! Clearly there is a programming error that Intuit needs to sort out...

Something is REALLY STRANGE here. The form is available now from the IRS but TT now says I cannot file till mid March since my foreign tax credits require it.

Why am I paying for TT if they cannot get something this simple done?
