Missed RMD and form 5329 procedure?

My father received 2 of 3 RMDs for 2022.  He calculated the missed RMD amount and requested the amount several days ago (2/27). We haven't e-filed yet so we completed form 5329 in Turbo Tax.  When filling out the 5329 we listed the total amount of RMD he should have received on line 52 and the actual amount received on line 53.  Is this the correct way or should we have entered only the amounts for the missed RMD?  The amount on line 54 is the same either way.

When we e-file, will form 5329 be included in the filing?

Is there a way to confirm the form was submitted in the e-file?

Thanks.

"we listed the total amount of RMD" That is the correct way. That's what the line says to do.

because he took some of the RMD (1099-R) you can be sure TurboTax will include the Form.

Request waiver of the shortfall. This will make line 54 and 55 zero.

IRS will grant the waiver.

Thanks for the quick response.  Is there a way to verify the 5329 is included with the e-file?  I've been using TT for years and never really thought about verifying if everything was sent.  I'm assuming it always has been since Uncle Sam hasn't come a'knocking.

every once in a while somebody gets a letter from IRS that a form was missing.

That's not supposed to be possible with electronic submission.

Missed RMD and form 5329 procedure?

I had to dig into forms to get to the 5329 for a missed RMD.  I'm requesting a waiver, however, I can't get turbo tax to include the 5329 with the return (It isn't included with the returns necessary for filing), and I can't even print the waiver explanation.  Am I missing a box to check?

Missed RMD and form 5329 procedure?

Good morning.  I had no difficulty in entering the RMD info when I followed the steps provided in the answers by the other two individuals.

However, once I entered the info I did a print preview to ensure the RMD waiver request was present.  It was there but based on how much info I had entered, the font was different for every line of entry making some of them difficult to read.   I consolidated my explanation and redid the entry which created a form much easier to read.

I then went thru the filing process/preview again to make sure I was selecting the correct option to file so everything was sent.

Probably more steps than necessary but I wanted to be certain.

This info is incorrect you can't E FILE WITH FORM 5329 INCLUDED PERIOD! iF YOU THINK YOU DID IT PLEASE CLEARLY STATE ALL THE STEPS YOU TOOK TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. Even TT in the step by step in the question about RMD says to hold up filing as they are working in fixing this issue!

Turbotax 2024 CAN'T HANDLE A MISSED IRA RMD WITHDRAWAL . It will not trigger a form 5329 to request a penalty waiver if you indicate a $0 withdrawal for your RMD. If you prepare the form 5329 yourself it will not include it in your required docs to be filed E or mailed. It keeps telling me to file later because they are working on this problem, as if this was rare. According to published data from IRS every year there is around 28% of filers that have a shortfall in their RMD's and need to file form 5329 to report it. WHAT HAS TURBOTAX BEING DOING ALL THESE YEARS?????? Its a very simple problem to solve just add a trigger to the software for this form whenever they
they see a shortfall in the step by step questions! Meanwhile I can't file my tax return with E file because they will not support this form so the only thing I can do is print the 1040 with docs supported and then print the 5329 separately and mail both together to the IRS. Be careful with answers online which says it will file the 5329 unless they are telling you how and you have tested. Most of the time they don't answer the question if it can be filed but instead explain how you can prepare yourself the form if you have the desktop form of the software which is not the question! I wonder if people who answer to questions or complaints EVER RED THE ACTUAL QUESTION.
