Military Severance Pay

So I did my taxes and I got separated of the military by disability and they gave me a disability Severance pay  but I was taxed when it was not suppose To be taxed. They told me that I can claim it while doing my taxes what do I need to do since when I did the taxes with turbo tax did not saw an option for that and for 100% permanent and Total disable vet.

Yes, you can claim a refund of the taxes withheld on your tax return.  To do this, you will need to enter your W-2 as you normally would, then you will take the following steps to remove offset the taxable income but still show the taxes withheld so they can be refunded. 

  • Click Federal
  • Income and Expenses
  • Show More next to Less Common Income
  • Start next to Miscellaneous Income
  • Start next to Other Reportable Income
  • Enter Military Severance Reclassified as Disability for the Description
  • Enter the amount reported in box 1 of your W2 as a negative number (ex -$40,000) 
  • Click done

But why can't I file electronically? it says i have to do it the traditional paper way?

It depends on what forms you are trying to file with your return.  Some forms cannot be electronically file. To clarify, does your program indicate why you are not able to file electronically?
