My friend is a provider and drives daily to his clients homes to provide services. He also helps his clients by driving them to different markets or stores for shopping, doctors' appointments, pharmacies, adult day care centers, etc. He keeps detailed records for his miles driven and always documents his beginning of the year mileage and end of the year mileage. Does he enter the total miles driven, including the commuting miles from home to workplace, for MILES DRIVEN FOR THIS JOB or does he just enter the total miles that he drove when he took his clients to different markets or stores for shopping, doctors' appointments, pharmacies, adult day care centers, etc.? He does know that he needs to enter the total commuting miles from home to his workplace for the next question MILES DRIVEN TO AND FROM YOUR WORKPLACE FOR THE YEAR.
Total miles driven for his job including commuting miles from home to workplace is 8318, total commuting miles from home to workplace is 7950, and the miles driven for shopping, doctors, etc is 1368.

No, commuting miles are not included in the "miles driven for this job" total. This entry will include the miles driven when running errands for his clients. If he visits more than one client per day, it also includes the mileage to each additional client's home. He will include the miles driven from home to his first work location and from his last work location back home as "miles driven to and from your workplace for the year".
