Medical expenses

I’m working on my state return and on a page where it says “you reported medical expenses on your federal tax return.” What is it referring to I didn’t report any medical expenses I took the standard deduction.

Medical expenses

If you entered any medical expenses in the Federal return, but you didn't have enough to exceed the standard deduction on your Federal return, TurboTax will still flow the information through to your state return.

Also, if you paid Medicare premiums through your Social Security, TurboTax will pick up the entry from your Social Security form and pass it through to medical expenses.

In some cases, you may be able to take itemized deductions on your state return that weren't allowed on the Federal return, depending on the rules for your state.

See this article for more information regarding deductible medical expenses.
