I am filiing jointly but my spouse doesn't have ITIN, so we plan to submit the form W-7 along with the tax return.
I have few questions on Turbotax:
1. In the software/tool, is it possible to put empty box on the SSN space for spouse and to file as Married Filing Jointly? I tried to test it out but couldn't go till the end to verify this.
2. Is it possible to print the return once everything is filled out, so I can physically mail it instead of doing e-filing from Turbotax?I need to mail it along with W-7, and cannot e-file this year. I am trying to use Turbotax to do the filing-out portion and I will mail.
3. California state taxes also doesnot seem to allow putting empty box in SSN for spouse. Does this work the same, as in, I put empty and fill everything and somehow get a pdf? Thanks

You are able to complete the tax return in TurboTax and then print and mail it instead of e-filing. The program will give you that option when you get to the end of the process. You won't be able to get through the review process without entering a tax ID for your spouse. You can enter 123-45-6789 so that the program does not keep flagging you for review. Be sure to delete that before printing your returns to mail. You will also be able to print and mail your California return. The bogus tax ID number will also populate on the California return. Again, be sure to delete that before printing and mailing your return.
Sorry, what did you mean by deleting the bogus number? I thought, if we put a bogus number, the software will take it, and then at the end of the process, we get a pdf that has that number. How do we delete the number from the pdf though?
If you're able to edit your PDF, you can delete that number within the file before printing. If not, you can use White Out to mask it after printing.
