I am getting the same issue. I have three W-2s in federal but Turbotax inserted a fourth, blank w-2 into my state which I cannot delete. I keep getting a warning to delete the extra in the Gross Compensation Worksheet, but there is literally no way to do this. Turbotax "help" is no help at all, the only way to get any assistance with their mistakes is to pay an extra $50 to be put on hold for an hour before talking with someone.
This has been common not only for TurboTax but for many tax preparers and this is not a program issue, but that many payroll processing centers were using updated software that were mis-coding the information that would flow to the State. If you electronically uploaded your W2(s), and have had this issue, please go back and delete out these W2(s). Then, manually re-enter all information except for the "control number" code. That should resolve this issue as the system will only then take the correct information.
Be sure to not forget State and Local information, especially if you have more than one State that you are paying into for withholding.
Same issue. Need to delete the form and then go over the state return again.
Expand tax tools on the left-hand side --> select tools --> delete a form --> scroll down near the bottom where the state return should be listed and delete the gross compensation form (or any other form you might be having issues with).
Then go back to the state return and run it again. Need to make sure under the income and adjustments section of the state return that only 1 employer is showing or whatever # matches your W2.
This should clear the smart check then and allow you to Efile.
Did you ever find a solution. I am having the same issue .
No I didn’t. I tried everything people have suggested here with the same result. I even deleted all of my info and restarted the process from the very beginning - exact same issue. No help at all on the phone, so after wasting hours on hold I just did a paper return which I’m sure will take a few months for them to process. Never using TurboTax again. Ever.
