Hello,
My wife and I have been in the US for 6 years on J1 and J2 visas, respectively (with EAD). We are classified as nonresident aliens from an immigration standpoint. However, for tax purposes, we are now considered resident aliens. During the period when we were considered nonresident aliens, we filed our taxes separately. Now that we are classified as resident aliens for tax purposes, can we file our taxes jointly? I searched the IRS website but couldn't find information on this. Thank you in advance!

Yes.
If you are married, you can file jointly as resident aliens.
I am a resident alien and my husband is a US citizen. We file jointly. I believe resident alien status should allow you to financially do most anything citizens can do.
Yes.
As a resident alien, you must follow the same tax law as US citizens.
Please read this IRS document for more information.
