I have itemized deductions which far exceed the standard deduction. Prior to the update on 3/19/2026, Turbotax Home and Business desktop for the Mac correctly moved the total itemized deductions as shown on Schedule A to the 1040. However, after the update, while the Schedule A still shows the correct amount of total itemized deductions, the 1040 is only showing the standard deduction. The program will also not allow me to override line 12e on the 1040 to the amount that's on the Schedule A.
I've reported this to Turbotax, but no answer so far. Anyone else experiencing this program error? As I said, this was working properly until this morning when the program update was applied.

I found the bug. For some reason, when you go through the interview after the update, at some point in the process it checks a box on the info worksheet that forces the standard deduction even when itemized deductions are higher. I didn't check this box and it wasn't checked on the input file saved before the software update. I'm also not sure why anyone would check this box if their itemized deductions were indeed higher than the standard deduction.
In any event, I unchecked this box and now the itemized deductions flow to the 1040. However, you need to re-check your itemized deductions. For example, my investment interest expense was lowered in the process because the allocation of investment gains was also turned off. But once I matched to my prior file, everything is as it should be.
Phew!
You did a great job! As for why anyone would choose standard when itemized is better, usually the MFS people. Both must itemize or both take standard. Therefore, they have to choose the lower standard if the spouse is filing standard.
