My middle name is wrong on my w-2, but the initial is still right. Do I need to request a corrected w-2 or is that not a problem?

I asked them and they want a social security card to fix it. Since I am a student and working for the university 200 miles away from where it is at home, it is near impossible to get it.

It should not cause a problem, as long as your social security number and last name are correct.
