What does "Did you support yourself in 2016?" actually mean?

I read about it more but I still don't understand the question

It's asking if you provided all support for yourself without the help of anyone during 2016. So if you purchased all of your own food, paid your own living expenses, etc. then you provided support for yourself. If someone else or a parent provided these things, you did not provide support for yourself.
