How do I know if I should file with my spouse who has his own business or by myself?

It is almost always more beneficial to file married filing jointly than married filing separately. You cannot file as "single" when you are married.

The standard deduction for married filing jointly is $24,000 and this is a great benefit for married filing jointly taxpayers.
