Isn't a distinction made between long-term and short-term capital gains? Box 2a is called "Total capital gain distr." but on my statement the amount is marked long-term.

Box 2a is for long term.

I looked it up.  1099-Div box 2a Capital Gains is long-term.  See IRS 1099-Div Instructions Page 4 box 2a
