When you use desktop download software there is a $25 state e-filing fee. You can avoid that fee if you print and mail the state return.

With online TurboTax, there is not ever a fee to e-file, but you pay separate fees to prepare federal and state returns. The fee is the same whether you e-file or file by mail.
