Is there a known issue preventing the e-filing of my state tax amendment using TurboTax Desktop 2021 for Windows?

I had to amend my 2021 taxes, which I filed using the TurboTax Windows desktop software. I got most of the way through the amendment and I was told I had to print and send my federal amendment by snail mail, but that I could e-file my Colorado amendment. I proceeded to the next page, where it says, "We're ready to file your taxes". Hitting "Continue" on this page doesn't do anything. Anyone know what might be going on? It doesn't give me the option to do anything other than e-file my Colorado amendment so I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do next.

You cannot e-file your amended state return.   The only way to file it is by mail.   Print it, sign it and date it in ink, and mail it to the state.

Thanks @xmasbaby0. I guess the message in the software is a little misleading then, because it makes it seem like you can e-file Colorado amendments. Do you know if I'd print and send the same amendment form that I'm sending to the Federal IRS? I'm hoping that's the case because I don't see an option to print anything different.

Federal and state returns go to separate addresses to be processed by completely separate entities.

Hey, so I'm still stuck on this. First things first, the software makes it seem like you can e-file for Colorado per the screenshot below. Step 2 says returns must be mailed except for Colorado. Step 3 tells me to e-file my amended CO return.

Like I said previously though, when I go to the next page, I see the following and hitting "Continue" doesn't do anything. I also tried installing the software on a different computer and I still couldn't get past this step.

I also checked to see if the return it generated for me included a state return, because I honestly don't mind if I have to mail the thing, but I don't see that in there. This piece of the generated return makes me think there would be a "separate" return in the same document if it did generate the state return (specifically, the part that says "Your returns will print together, so you'll need to separate them. Both returns start with an instruction sheet ..."). I looked over the 40 pages of the return and could not find a separate instruction sheet.

I'm at a loss for what to do next, so any ideas on how to tackle this situation would be appreciated!

Oh, I think I just figured out why people keep asking about efiling prior year amended returns and the program seems like it should let  you.    You probably could efile it back in 2022 when the 2021 filing season was open.  But they haven't updated the screens.   Those are the instructions for back then.

And this is old from last  year.........

According to our tech support team, this is not a product defect. TurboTax Desktop for prior years does not support E-file for amendments like TurboTax Online does. Apparently, the signature date is the trigger for rejecting an e-file attempt.

Thanks @VolvoGirl! This makes sense now.

In case it's helpful for anyone else this is the path forward that I'm taking:

- You can e-file amendments for Colorado here: https://www.colorado.gov/revenueonline

- You're able to see your forms in the TurboTax software (there's an option on the top right side to see them), so I'm using the state forms from this view since I'm unable to print them out.

Why can't you print them?  Didn't you say you printed the federal?  You can print from the Forms Mode.  In Windows when you have the form open there is a print button at the bottom.  Then you can either Save As PDF or Preview Print Copy.
