Is minor's sport sponsorship income taxable?

My 16 year old plays ice hockey league.

He got $1,000 sponsorship (no strings attached) in 2024.

He also got $1,200 1099-INT.

He also has a business as a hockey referee. He has $660 profit there.

I'd like to file taxes for him, so he can open ROTH IRA for $660.

Do I need to include $1,000 sponsorship as income? He did not get 1099 for that.

If yes, where would I enter it? I can't find a place for that.

Thanks!

Is minor's sport sponsorship income taxable?

The sponsorship sounds similar to a scholarship, where you are required to use it for a particular purpose, enrollment in a hockey league in this case. If so, it would be taxable. A gift is where you give someone something of value for which the recipient dose not need to do anything in return. If it is not a gift you would have to report it as "other" income.

You can make that entry in TurboTax as follows:

1. From the Federal menu in TurboTax find Wages and Income

2. Find Less Common Income

3. Choose Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C

4. Choose Other Reportable Income
