Are you really in a hurry to e-file so that your return can just sit on a server for most of January until the IRS begins to accept/reject e-files in late January? If you discover that you made a mistake, you cannot fix the mistake while your return pends on that server.
Do not file a tax return without ALL of your income documents; you must include every 2023 W-2 on the same tax return. Employers have until the end of January to issue W-2’s. Wait until you have all of your W-2’s. Clients, schools, Social Security, banks and other financial institutions may not have tax documents available until late January/early February. ALL of your tax documents must be entered on the same Form 1040; do not file unless you have entered everything.
In answer to your question about what time you can e-file....we really do not know. We are volunteers here in the user forum and are not always in on TT's latest choices. I do know that a user posted a few minutes ago that they e-filed----with all the wrong income information and wanted to know how to get their return back. It is not certain if they really e-filed or just think they did---but if they did.....they are now stuck for weeks.....because their incorrect return will sit on a server until the IRS rejects it or accepts it.
The IRS has not yet announced a date when e-filing of 2023 tax returns will start. TurboTax will let you "e-file" starting on January 4, but your tax return will not really be filed. TurboTax will just hold it until the IRS begins accepting returns. Nothing will be done with it before then. If you submit it early, be aware that you can't cancel it or get it back to make changes or corrections if you find that you made an error or left something out.
I have the same question, I am applying for the tt advance and it says come back January 4th to efile, today is January 4th and it still gives me that message. When will it update?
I am having this issue too. I am trying to efile but it keeps telling me to come back on Jan 4. But it is Jan 4. And yes I know that I won't be able to go back and change anything.
We do not know an exact time when they will let you e-file so all you can do is keep trying if you are determined to e-file now. It makes no real difference. Your return is not going to be "first in line" for an advance or your refund if you file today, tomorrow, or next week. It is going to sit there until the IRS starts to accept returns. And they do not worry about who was in line first. As for the advance...you do not get money until the IRS accepts the e-file.
I’m trying to find out the same thing. Mine is paid for, and still can’t file

You can't get the money for the refund advance until after the IRS accepts your e-filed tax return, and that cannot happen until sometime later in January when the IRS starts accepting returns. As I said earlier, the IRS still has not yet announced the date when they will start accepting returns. They sent out a notice this morning saying that they expect to announce a start date "later this month."
When I was getting assistance from a TT member they told me Jan. 21 is when the actual IRS accepting returns which sort of defeats this entire refund advanced because like you I NEEDED some of my advance while all of us already know it's not a race. It's about the advertisement of a Early Advance Refund only to have basically a week window to actually be able to obtain it?
Not sure what you mean by only having a "week window" to obtain the advance. The advance program remains open until February 15. When you e-file---no matter when that is----you will not receive any money for that advance until the IRS accepts your e-file.
