LOL. We all know how good that will go.
The amount they took was not exact same amount. When I filed the amendment I owed a couple hundred more, so amount was different, so it looking like a duplicate will not send a flag. But now I am out an extra 6K and I need that money!!
@hopiegirl When you did the amended return did it show the first tax due as paid on line 16? And you should not amend until the first return was process and they took the first tax due. And I didn't know they can direct debit your bank for amended returns. I thought you had to mail in a check with the 1040X.
The amended return will only be the difference you get back or need to pay. You can confirm this by printing your amendment and looking at the 1040X. Line 18 should be your original refund amount and line 21 should be your additional refund. If you paid on your original return it will be on line 16 (but don't include any penalty on 1040 line 38). If there is an amount owed with the amendment, it will be on line 20.
This also happened to me.
I also was told by the irs there is nothing that they can do. I didn’t realize once you submit your taxes on turbo tax they automatically withdraw from your bank account if you give them your bank account. I thought I had to go on the irs website to still make payment. I was charged an overdraft fee because they withdrew twice.
So you accidentally paid twice? That's not what happened to me. I paid once and they took out twice what I paid them. 3 years later and they are still trying to find the 2nd withdrawal. I am working with the TAS. This is sloooooooowwwwww.
I finally have a TAS agent that is trying to push through a hard core trace for the money that was illegally taken from my account. It is now over 3 year since the funds were taken and nearly 1 year dealing with TAS. My TAS agent said she has had success recovering funds subject to the trace and she has met with resistance from the IRS.
The information provided is outdated.
Doesn't work. I'm guessing they figured this out. If you don't put in SSN, it says call back when you have it.
