Irrevocable trust tax filing help

Hi all,

This the first year I'm filing tax return for an irrevocable trust set up by my dad (still alive) and the trust has no distribution and all the income is retained by the trust. I'm the trustee of the trust. I need help on the steps to filing tax. here are the detail:

  • Trustee: Resident of CA
  • The trust is set up in another state (not CA) and it owns one duplex in the state. One unit is a rental.
  • The duplex is transferred to the trust in 2024
  • No distribution of income to beneficiary (me), trust retains all the income (rent)

I have been filing my own tax with turbotax for > 10 years but trust tax filing is completely new to me.

Can someone point me to the steps for filing?

a few questions:

  1. Should I file tax return in CA?
  2. Should I file tax return in the state where the property is located?
  3. Is the depreciation from my dad's original filing get carried over to trust tax filing?
  4. Given the detail, could turbotax handle?

Thanks in advance.
