Why do my IRA distributions, as reported on the 1099-R forms I have received that I have carefully entered in the TuboTax program, show up on the pension and annuity distributions lines on the 1040 worksheet and on form 1040 rather than on the lines for IRA distributions?

There is a box in your 1099R that you need to check stating that reads the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box is checked on my copy of the 1099-R. You need to check that box. It is located between lines 7 and 8 in your Turbo Tax program.

Distribution code on my 1099-R (line 7) is IRA/SEP/SIMPLE and that is what is checked on the Turbo Tax work sheet for IRA MMD. Yet there is no entry that appears on the Turbo Tax 1040-SR line 4a (IRA distributions) form. So I don't know if this income is being reported or not.
4b is the taxable amount. Is there an entry on 4b? Or did it show up on lines 4c & 4d?l
The Code is not the little IRA box. That is a separate box you have to check on the screen. The Code is a single letter or number like a 7. So box 7 can have Code 7 in it.
Useing Turbo Tax soft ware Premier version. Not on line.
No idea what your first paragraph means. There is no 4b. Regarding your second paragraph, Distribution code is 7 on both the 1099-R and on the Turbo Tax work sheet. work sheet. Distribution code on both 1099-R and the Turbo Tax work sheet is 7. Below "Distribution Code(s)" is the next line entry "IRA/SEP/SIMPLE" and a box to the right that is checked on the 1099-R.
4b is the line on your actual 1040 return. Switch to Forms Mode and open the 1040 and see if the IRA is on 4a or 4b. 4a is on the left side of 4b.
Apologies. Lightbulb just went on. I see the 4b entry on the 1040 is the same as the MMD. Still nothing in box 4a but I am not going to concern myself with that. Thanks
Right. It's ok for 4a to be blank.
