Independent Contractor provided the incorrect W9....

I filed all 1099's within the deadline and received a phone call today that an independent contractor provided the incorrect W9 to me. He is asking that I void the prior sent 1099 and send a new 1099 to the corrected W9.

Will I incur a fine since it is after the deadline? Am I responsible to do this since he initially provided the incorrect W9?

What do I do?!

Please help and thank you!!

Keep both W-9's for your files

Make sure the new one has the date corrected on it.

If the correction is for tax ID number you will need to do a corrected 1099 on the old tax ID number to zero it out.

Then you will need a 1099 for the new tax ID. There should not be a fine in this case.
