Incorrect message about W-2c coming

In the Federal Review, after the Feb 18 updates, I get a message "Heads up!. You have a W-2c coming" for deferred Social Security taxes.  However, my social security was NOT deferred by my employer (I did the math and I had 6.2% properly withheld from my check). This message did not appear prior to the update.

Incorrect message about W-2c coming

Some folks are getting that if they also had a 1099-NEC form in addition to a W-2

IF not that...

could be a simple rounding difference in box 4.  Try adding 50cents to box 4 on any W2 that has nearly 50cents on the final digits and see if the  Warning/Notice (and that's all it is) still occurs.

IF it does, then that is what's going on...i.e. just a rounding difference between what your employer did, and what TTX did.

Then return box 4 to it's former # and ignore that notice/warning.

I tested my desktop software.....and for my test, in a situation where the 6.2% was close to $$$$.50..... a value of $$$$.49  in box 4 gave me the warning, and $$$$.50 did not....and that's all a rounding issue.

Incorrect message about W-2c coming

My W-2 has wages of $5,521.86 and SS W/H $342.36.  I changed it to 342.56 (so it rounds up) and the W-2c message went away.  Turbotax needs to fix this so users don't get an invalid message.

Thanks for the help.

@saldirj

Interesting it has to move that far.

Question though....Did you report another W-2 also?  It could be a combination of rounding on both forms that doesn't add up to whatever TTX "expects" .

Yeah....they need to allow more "slop" in the expected box 4  $$ total, like maybe ignore $5 under  as being immaterial...

That's my only W-2.  My other income is 1099s (INT,DIV,R)

Incorrect message about W-2c coming

Interesting....I thought for a moment that could be something to do with box 7 tips, and a box 12 code A.

But

I tried putting in a W-2 with the exact same $$ you indicated.....same W-2 C problem.  I have no idea why TTX is requiring such strange rounding.

Ignore the notice and move on...someone at TTX is gong to have to figure that one out.

Incorrect message about W-2c coming

I've got the same problem.  W-2s have the exact amount withheld (6.2%). Don't have a 1099-NEC.

Still get the warning message...ugh...

@lucec   Then ignore the Notice.  IT doesn't affect your taxes, nor does it stop you from e-filing.

A Notice that was supposed to be helpful....just ended up being unhelpful

Incorrect message about W-2c coming

I have checked the amount taken out from my W2 form and the amount paid is 6.2  percent of amount from my income: $1039.50 income $64.45 social security tax paid.

Incorrect message about W-2c coming

I get the same message.  I have checked and my social security tax withheld and it's exactly 6.2% which is correct.  I do have a 1099-NEC so there's definitely a glitch in the software.  Someone needs to fix this.
