I am having the exact same issue and I have filled out all the fields. Will not let me e-file till that is corrected. I'm not sure what to do. I really don't want to mail in my tax forms.
I have the same problem. It’s asking for my spouse’s 1099-NEC but I told TurboTax I am single.
Entering the Form 1099-NEC directly through a specific Schedule C will match the ownership of that Form 1099-NEC to the taxpayer who runs the Schedule C business.
If you have entered a Form 1099-NEC for your own Schedule C, but there is another Form 1099-NEC still unassociated with a specific Schedule C, the program may be having an issue deciding where it goes and it tries to assign it to a spouse.
Try going back to the section where you entered the Form 1099-NEC if you entered it on its own and delete that entry. Use these steps:
This will bring you to the summary of all Form 1099-NEC that you have entered. Click Delete or the trash can icon next to each one.
Thank you for that reply. I'm having the same issue. You suggest going back to delete. I never entered it this year to begin with. I do not have a 1099 in any form this year. I did not upload one. I did last year, but not this year. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
If you have entered one last year, the information very likely was carried over to this year. If this form does not apply to you, you can simply remove it from the program. Here are the steps:
In TurboTax online version:
1. Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
2. Select Tax Tools, click on the drop down arrow
3. Select Tools
4. Under Other helpful links, choose Delete a form
5. Select Delete next to 1099-NEC and Continue with My Return
Beginning with the 2020 tax year, the IRS will require business taxpayers to report nonemployee compensation on the new Form 1099-NEC instead of on Form 1099-MISC. Businesses will need to use this form if they made payments totaling $600 or more to a nonemployee, such as an independent contractor. This was done to help clarify the separate filing deadlines on Form 1099-MISC and the new 1099-NEC form will be used starting with the 2020 tax year.
