Enter the 1099-R manually. That will take a lot less time and effort than trying to figure out why importing is not working.

Import 1099-R from institution Fails

@brmwiatt

Are you trying to import a 1099-R or a 1099-INT? You said both in different places. But in either case my answer is the same. Entering it manually will take a lot less time and effort than trying to figure out why importing is not working.

Sorry - it was a 1099-Int.   I did enter it manually, but it still should be fixed.

do they partner with Turbotax? Not all FI's do, so you can't import those. It's also possible that the issue is at the FI's end since I just imported some 1099-INT, using desktop, without any problems

Appreciate the response. I never know if responses are coming from other users or TT support. If from other users, in generally. I don't trust answers as they really are not in position to give a proper answer .  Either way, the institution should not be in the drop down list if they don't partner with TT and secondly, TT should not providing a message to the user the import succeeded. Anyway you frame it,  there is no way this is not a software bug.

All said it is entirely possible, the bug is specific to a institution.

Using this forum, the answers can come from other users or "support". If it's a TurboTax employee, it would indicate something when providing the user's ID If you want answers only from support, you will need to contact them. They will never call you. Not available with the free edition

Partners that provide user import must format the data according to TurboTax specifications. One little error and the import fails. You could also call the institution to report the issue.

this Issue could also be attributed to your browser, firewall, and or antivirus.

I sort of doubt it's a software bug, because that would affect all users, so there would be hundreds, if not thousands of complaints.

There is no way to know for sure what causes your issue.

Thanks for the info!

may be what I resort to, but "let's buy automated software" for tax purposes then enter it manually because it doesn't work. :(

Import 1099-R from institution Fails

agree that it doesn't work as it should at least not for me. as for being institution specific, I tried several large reputable ones (Vanguard, Fidelity, TIAA...) to no avail (so far). If they're not going to provide it then those institutions should not be in their list of importable firms, and perhaps they should advertise as a great platform for loading data manually on a key form for many users!

Import 1099-R from institution Fails

Exactly. I get what people say to do as a work around and that it may be quicker. But I rely on the import to work - mainly to avoid typing errors. And I also get why it may work for some in the list and not some, because of poor testing and or the institution making  change  after passing testing, however I will never accept if it were a bug there would be 1000's of complaints. I am a developer myself and have  seen some very obscure bugs.

I can also see where it could be browser related - but what I can't accept is the TT telling me the import was successful when clearly it was not.

All in all, i guess I need to submit a  software bug - but finding how to do that is a challenge, though one user was nice and explained how to do that.  TT would do well to build bug reporting into the software or a link in the software for it.
